My Hour With God

A time for dedication to God, our Almighty Creator of Universe, Nature and Humankind. Fellowshipping with our God in a very personal way, feeling His Peace, Love and Hope in our Family and among brothers and sisters in our Community.

Higher Ground

Here are some useful guide and content for prayer.
I will add more from time to time.
I hope this will benefit everyone.

Make Me A Channel of Your Peace (Prayer of St. Francis)
Attributed to Saint Francis of Assisi

Hymn version, adapted and set to music by Sebastian Temple
Make me a channel of your peace:
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love,
Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,
And where there's doubt true faith in you.
Make me a channel of your peace:
Where there's despair in life, let me bring hope,
Where there is darkness, only light,
And where there's sadness, ever joy.
O Master, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved, as to love with all my soul!
Make me a channel of your peace:
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
In giving of ourselves that we receive,
And in dying that we are born to eternal life.

The Lord's Prayer
The Lord’s Prayer is the most famous and a central prayer of all Christian prayers. It is a prayer Jesus gave his disciples in response to their request to teach them how to pray.  This prayer became a guide in their individual prayers on a daily basis and the most church services, nowadays.

In church, the Lord’s Prayer may be prefaced (by liturgical words) for example,
  • Let us bow our heads and pray with humility, as our Saviour has taught us …
  • Jesus taught us to call God our Father, so in faith and trust we pray
  • As our Saviour has taught us, so we pray …
You may wish to quote from or make reference to the prayer as it occurs in book of Matthew 6:9–13
"Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil."

The prayer also occurs in the book of Luke 11:2-4
"Father, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Give us each day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins,
for we ourselves forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation."

Crown of Glory
Written by by Sun Myung Moon (age 15)

When I doubt people, I feel pain.
When I judge people, it is unbearable.
When I hate people, there is no value to my existence.
Yet if I believe, I am deceived.
If I love, I am betrayed.
Suffering and grieving tonight, my head in my hands
Am I wrong?
Yes, I am wrong.
Even though we are deceived, still believe.
Though we are betrayed, still forgive.
Love completely even those who hate you.
Wipe your tears away and welcome with a smile
Those who know nothing but deceit
And those who betray without regret.
Oh Master! The pain of loving!
Look at my hands.
Place your hand on my chest.
My heart is bursting, such agony!
But when I loved those who acted against me
I brought victory.
If you have done the same thing,
I will give you the crown of glory.

Do It Anyway
(*written on the wall in Mother Teresa's home for children in Calcutta.
Originally composed by Kent Keith, and much of the second half has been re-written in a more spiritual way. - This version is credited to Mother Teresa)

People are often unreasonable, irrational, and self-centered.  Forgive them anyway.
If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives.  Be kind anyway.
If you are successful, you will win some unfaithful friends and some genuine enemies.  Succeed anyway.
If you are honest and sincere people may deceive you.  Be honest and sincere anyway.
What you spend years creating, others could destroy overnight.  Create anyway.
If you find serenity and happiness, some may be jealous.  Be happy anyway.
The good you do today, will often be forgotten.  Do good anyway.
Give the best you have, and it will never be enough.  Give your best anyway.
In the final analysis, it is between you and God.  It was never between you and them anyway.

LUTHER'S MORNING PRAYER
(taken from Dr. Luther's Small Catechism)

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have kept me this night from all harm and danger;
and I pray that You would keep me this day also from sin and every evil, that all my doings and life may please You.
For into Your hands I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things.
Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me.  Amen.

LUTHER'S EVENING PRAYER
(taken from Dr. Luther's Small Catechism)

In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen.
I thank you, my heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ, Your dear Son, that You have graciously kept me this day;
and I pray that You would forgive me all my sins where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night.
For into Your hands, I commend myself, my body and soul, and all things.
Let Your holy angel be with me, that the evil foe may have no power over me.  Amen.
